Blushift Aerospace, from Brunswick, Maine recently conducted a successful test of a bio-fueled rocket - the first of its kind in the world. They traveled to northern Maine on January 31 to test their hybrid rocket at the Loring Commerce Center, located at the former Loring Air Force Base.
The launch took place on the airport runway at Loring and is the first commercial launch of a rocket powered by bio-fuel. The proprietary fuel, which is a combination of solid bio-derived plant-based fuel and a liquid oxidizer, is burned in a custom-built hybrid engine contained in the nearly 20 foot tall rocket, called Stardust 1.
