Lærdal tunnel between Aurland (near Flåm) and Lærdalsøyri on European highway E16 in Sogn og Fjordane, Norway.
Completed in 2000 after a 5 year excavation, the 24.5km long Lærdalstunnelen is the longest road tunnel in the world. It contains three colourfully lit 'caves' at 6km intervals, 15 heavy vehicle reversing bays, emergency stopping bays every 250m, emergency telephones every 250m and a fire extinguisher every 125m.
