Washington: Seattle’s Gas works Park and Lake Union on a cloudy summer day 2015

Gas works park is a landmark in Seattle, built as a coal gasification plant back in 1906 and running until the middle 1950’s. Sitting right on the edge of Lake Union it’s hard not to see it. So Seattle bought up the land and turned it into a park. An old industrial machinery building has been turned in to a covered picnic area and playground. The pipes and machinery was painted bright colors to make it more inviting, although throughout the building there are signs stating not to play on the equipment, most do anyway.

From a photographer’s point of view, there are so many things to take pictures of. Standing at the lake front, you can see the Space Needle, Down Town Seattle, and the massive sky line of buildings. The Duck boar floating car tours run regularly past Gas Works Park, and Lake Union has a float plane business right in front of you, to your right is Salmon bay and the Ballard Locks not far. To your left is The University of Washington and Lake Washington.
