Washington: Seattle, Colonnade Bike park 2009. Pro photographer versus a guy with a cheap camera..
Back in 2009 My Son Andrew was really into mountain biking, so much so that he knew of all the mountain bike paths in the area under development. He spent a few days helping clear out the brush and lay down some of the materials for the jumps at the Colonnade site (under the interstate I-5 freeway at Lake Union in Seattle).
To show their appreciation, the guys developing the site invited a local bike manufacturer Transition bikes from Bellingham Washington to come on down for a barbecue and bike demo day.
You sign up on their form, and try out any of their brand new custom bikes on the tracks for as long as you like. That’s why you see Andrew on so many different bikes.
To top that, a fantastic photographer from KGK Photography, just stopped by to try out some new external flashes for his camera. He Asked Andrew if he’d be willing to be photographed going over the same jump multiple times.
The photographer from KGK Photography reached out a few weeks later to give Andrew copies of the pictures he took, Thank you I’ll give credit where credit is due.
Mike Metzer a professional mountain bike rider sponsored by Transition even showed up for the event.
To top this all off, it was Andrews Birthday. I think he had a great day.
In this slideshow, you’ll clearly see 2 different sets of photographs here. The good set is from KGK Photography with the skills, style and equipment to do good things.
The other photography set is,,, uh, me.
Learning how to take pictures on a really cheap portable pocket camera. I think you’ll be able to see the difference. Please let me know in the comments below if you still believe anyone can take good pictures with any camera…
One thing to learn from this video, good pictures and bad included. The only way to get better, is to get out there and take pictures. That day, I shadowed the photographer. I learned a great deal that day, it changed the way I look at photography. I also learned that if you want to do anything. Always try to do your best. That day back in 2009, I was not trying to do my best.
