Trouble at the United States Mint | Deficient in Quality Control

One would think, when dealing with currency and money, that the US Mint would scrutinize ever product from incoming raw materials to incoming old coins that are damaged and need to be replaced.....well, like most things in government, quality control slipped through the cracks. If the US Mint can't maintain quality control, how do we know that the US Gold Reserve is actual gold or even there?
