Mount Fuji's exceptionally symmetrical cone, which is snow-capped for about 5 months of the year, is commonly used as a cultural icon of Japan and it is frequently depicted inmany arts and photographs, as well as visited by sightseers and climbers.
Mount Fuji can be seen from the Tokaido Shinkansenbetween Tokyo and Osaka. When coming from
Tokyo, the mountain appears on the right side of the train and is best viewed around Shin-Fuji Station, about 40-45 minutesinto the journey.
Fuji is the highest in Japan. Weather conditions can be severe at any time of year, but many people
do not take the climb seriously. As a result, many dangerous and fatal climbing accidents occur.
During the summer climbing season* nearly 300,000 people climb the mountain.
