Ruby-Throated Hummingbird Defends Feeder

The males can be very territorial, which are ones with the brightly colored orange-red throat. These little birds can be quite vicious toward one another. I've seen a female grab another female by the top of it's head while feeding and drag it across the lawn as if to say "back off, this here is my feeding ground". Beautiful, yet violent creatures, indeed.

In this video, you can actually hear them collide into each other, making a pretty hard hitting thwap sound when they do.

On a more positive note, I've been blessed to have one of these tiny wonders rest on my finger while it drank from the feeder. They are so light, I couldn't even feel it. I did manage to record it in another video but I don't think I have it anymore due to a hard drive crash. I will try to capture that moment again sometime in the future, though.

Anyway, happy watching!
