DRIVING IN REVERSE | DRIVING LESSON WITH MR. T.

Jump in and drive along with Mr. T. as he explains what goes into learning how to drive in reverse.

And note:

-- When driving in reverse, it is important to drive slowly and "ride your brake" which means to keep a slight pressure on the brake in order to maintain a very slow speed.

-- When driving in reverse, you must look completely over your shoulder as long as the car is going backwards. Would you go forwards with your eyes closed? Of course not, but that is what you're doing if you go backwards without looking behind. Having said that, if you have a rearview camera, you can use that as your "eyes," but there is still no substitute for taking a solid visual sweep of the area behind the car before proceeding backwards.

-- Always, always, always, ensure that there are no children playing behind your car before you proceed. Remember that there is a large blind spot in front of your car when you're in the driver's seat, and an even larger blind spot in the back of your car. You cannot be too careful here--be sure to check, every time.

-- To "ride my brake" specifically means that I am just barely touching my foot to the brake--allowing my foot to hover over the brake gently--so that the car will proceed at a very slow pace, and I can stop it quickly if necessary.
