Free Speech NOW Only a Privilege for the Left?
CNN wants the elimination of conservative news.
Today on Sekulow, we discussed CNN’s call to eliminate conservative news. There were horrifying comments in support of censoring conservatives being made and accepted over the weekend on Brian Stelter’s show on CNN.
Here’s what former Facebook official Alex Stamos said on CNN:
"We have to turn down the capability of these Conservative influencers to reach these huge audiences. There are people on YouTube for example that have a larger audience than daytime CNN. And they are extremely radical, and pushing radical views. And so it’s up to the Facebooks and YouTubes, in particular, to think about whether or not they want to be, effectively, cable networks for disinformation. And then we’re going to have to figure out the OANN and Newsmax problem. You know, these companies have freedom of speech, but I’m not sure we need Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, and such to be bringing them into tens of millions of homes."
After these comments were made, they were promoted on the Internet by the Left as something that is totally normal to do in the United States of America. This would erase conservative viewpoints from not just cable networks but also social media. This could also be a backhanded way to eliminate competition.
Remember, Twitter had seen a lot of people moving to Parler. The ACLJ was utilizing that platform as well. Now Parler has been censored, and is basically gone for the time being.
So while Newsmax and OANN are not direct competitors to CNN, notice they did point out that there are people providing internet content with many more viewers than CNN’s daytime – and in truth primetime – shows. They would likely prefer to be everyone’s only news outlet.
My dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, made the following point when he said:
"The dangerous precedent is, whenever you try to silence a viewpoint, it is very dangerous. Remember, back in the 80’s, we fought against what was called the “Fairness Doctrine”. If you spoke about a conservative view, then you had to immediately put on a liberal view. That is not the answer to this. Some people are saying that, and I don’t agree with that. We have to be tolerant of views we disagree with, but we also have to have civil discourse. I think that’s all part of what’s going on here."
The fact is, the Left is on the war path in trying to censor and eliminate conservative speech and ideas.
The full broadcast is complete with much more discussion by our team about the current state of news, big tech censorship, and much more.
