Strat Tremolo Spring Reverb

Just a simple demonstration video to show that a reverb type sound is produced by the trem springs in a Strat when they vibrate, and that this reverb sound is picked-up by the guitar pickup and can be heard when using an amp. You can also hear the sound of the springs acoustically, without an amp, so there is both a direct sound (not heard in the video), and sound through the pickup (as heard in the video).

I strummed the springs in the video, while the strings were muted with my hand and lap, to isolate the sound produced by the springs. Normal playing also provides vibration for the springs. Simply strumming, or even knocking on the guitar body (ala Hendrix) will vibrate the springs, and the sound from an amp will add more vibration depending on volume. The harder and louder that you play, the more the springs vibrate, and the more of the reverb sound is produced. Obviously, this reverb sound will be more subtle while playing normally, and more pronounced when providing more extreme vibration to the springs. A different setup, such as fewer springs, different type of springs, floating the bridge, different bridge block, etc, would have more or less of this reverb sound than this setup with five springs stretched tightly.

The Bridge in my guitar is flush to the body with the claw screws tightened to prevent the bridge from moving. Callaham bridge block and springs. The guitar is straight into a POD and to computer for recording, so the sound of the springs is coming only from the guitar pickup into the POD.
