In the late 1950s and early 1960s, things were ramping up towards conflict on the Korean Peninsula thanks to US President Eisenhower's breaking of the armistice treaty and a military coup in South Korea. Kim Il-sung braced for conflict. But suddenly, the Vietnam War took up a bulk of the ROK-USA alliance's attention. While they weren't looking, Kim Il-sung realized that the time to strike was now. And so, the United States fought a secret Second Korean War hoping it wouldn't escalate and that the American people, already tired of the Vietnam conflict, wouldn't notice.
