The Hino da Independência is a Brazilian official patriotic song commemorating the country's declaration of independence from Portugal.
On 7 September 1822, Prince Pedro declared the independence of Brazil. Pedro was declared the first Emperor of Brazil, with the royal title of Dom Pedro I.
On 15 November 1889 the monarchy was overthrown by a military coup. 15 November is now Republic Day, a national holiday.
