Unprecedented Changes of Messianic Proportions

We are living in times of unprecedented changes of Messianic proportions. This is how Jacob lived the last 17 years of his life. The Torah reading for the week of December 27, 2020 is Parashah Vayechi consisting of Genesis 47:28 to 50:26. Parashah means portion and Vayechi means, “he lived.” The parashah title is taken from Genesis 47:28 that says:

“28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.” (Genesis 47:28 KJV)

Jacob lived his last 17 years in times of unprecedented changes of Messianic proportions. You are also living in times of unprecedented changes of Messianic proportions.

One of the nuances of Parashah Vayechi is that it is completely closed. That means there is no gap between the end of the previous parashah, Parashah Vayigash and this week’s parashah, Parashah Vayechi. This subtlety is rare in the Torah. One of the secrets of this Torah portion is unveiled through this nuance. Typically, a Torah scroll starts each parashah with a new paragraph. That is not the case here. There is only a narrow gap, less than one letter wide between Parashah Vayigash and Parashah Vayechi.

Why is this? The answer is will shock you because it will reveal the days we are currently living in, days of Unprecedented Changes of Messianic Proportions.
