1948 Zenith CobraMatic plays We Parted on the Shore
This 12-inch, 78 rpm disk features Scotland’s hottest international performer circa 1909, Sir Harry Lauder, starting out with a Popeye the Sailor Man riff then singing a rousing rendition of ‘We Parted on the Shore” on the A-side of Victor Talking Machine Company’s record #55118. The guy really likes rolling his Rs. It’s an interesting mixture of singing about leaving his woman to go off to the sea at the beginning before transitioning into a discussion of his experiences on the sea back in the days of sail. He wraps up this 1909-era Vaudeville performance singing the chorus of the song once more.
I've only been able to find information online about this performance indicating it was released as a single-sided pressing, but on the A-side of this record Sir Harry belts out ‘I Love to be a Sailor.’ Be sure to check it out at https://rumble.com/vcedpv-1948-zenith-cobramatic-plays-sir-harry-lauder-i-love-to-be-a-sailor-1909.html
At the end of the record, you'll notice that the auto-changer doesn't lift the tone arm and shut down the player. That's because the groove ends with the recording instead of circling in to the center of the disk, which triggers the auto-change mechanism. Instead, I have to cycle it manually.
Anyway, please subscribe! Thanks!
