7 Reasons Stockpiling “Hoarding” Hurts Preppers
1. It instills a mindset defeatist mindset. Instead of looking at your preparations as a starting point to go forward you see your preps as a countdown (Timer).
2. It gives you a false sense of security because you are putting your trust, faith, and future in materialistic things. It’s the reason why I trust a season battle proven Marine trained in CLS with and IFAK over an EMT with a brand-new unopened state of the ark medical bag.
3. Your stockpile becomes a crutch. Which leads can lead to bad decision making. “I need all my stuff” “I can’t leave my stuff”.
4. It seems to cause paranoia. “I can’t get to talk to people about preparedness because I have stuff” “I can’t get involved in my community because of my stuff”. Which leads to isolation a lot of the time.
5. Liability; If played out to its full potential of dependence it will lead you to become a target. If you are seclusive, known as the prepper guy who can’t interact with people because of fear of your stockpiles being overrun (your identify as a prepper is directly correlated to your stockpile) yes I can see how it will lead to placing a target on your head.
6. Likeliness that stockpile will expire or degrade to the point of unusability before they are needed (food, medicines, bleach, batteries, gasoline etc.).
7. It always seems to take over the narrative. A lot of prepper videos I see always talk about stockpiles to have or this piece of gear to buy. What’s the point of having 100 knives if you do don’t have the knowledge or skill set to harvest and animal? What the point of having an advanced medical kit if you don’t know how to properly apply a tourniquet or pressure dressing. You have a 1-year supply of food great what is your resupply plan? When is the last time you have lived off that food exclusively for a pay period for example? I know a lot of this goes to the fact that media and consumer plays a huge factor is all aspects of life (automotive, guns, makeup, video games, sports etc.) preparedness is no exception. Large channels need to make money somehow.
