When I first found out about this great come back story, I was told you fish for them from a ladder? WTHeck? Well, I went with the flow. I fished from a ladder. I wasn't the only one who did so. Everywhere I went people were side by side fishing for them from a ladder. Why? A couple of reasons. One is the water is chilly and the other is you can get out on the flat and to the drop off. Fish cruise along this depth change. Much better than standing in chest high waders. While I caught some, it wasn't my style.
I look for areas that have the wind blowing in to the bank. It seems the fish like to cruise in those shallow areas. I grabbed my rod and starting sight fishing for them. The word serenity comes to mind. Peaceful walks along the beaches of Lake Pyramid. Then every once in a while a school of fish would come out of the depths and would cruise the banks.
The best time I have found to catch these fish are, late February in to early May. They close the lake for summer so make sure you get your license and know the regulations. I found the best places to stay are in Reno, at the casino's, where the buffets are great and also cost effective.
