The City of Cape Town had their earth clearing machinery hard at work on the site in Masiphumelele where a fire destroyed hundreds of shacks. No rebuilding is allowed until the site is cleared and a new habitation plan is instituted. The Red Ant stabilisation unit was ensuring the area is kept clear and safe for the tractors and trucks to do their work. The City setup a registration department at the community hall where persons that lost their housing in the fire could register for a donated structure to be supplied by the City.
