The Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakesh is one of the oldest Moroccan mosques in existence now, as it was built in 1147 on the ruins of one of the ancient Almoravid palaces. It has an area of 5300 square meters, and it consists of 17 wings and 11 domes decorated with inscriptions, and clearly shows the character of Andalusian architecture. During the French occupation of Morocco, the road network was developed, and the mosque was considered a central meeting point in the city
