Acts 15: The Jerusalem Council

Acts Chapter 15 is probably, if not the most, one of the most controversial chapters in all of the New Testament. Most of Christianity misreads this chapter and in so doing they discard most of what the prophets taught, most of what Jesus taught and stood for, and most of what the Apostles lived and taught, and most of what Paul lived and taught who happened to be the largest contributor to the New Testament. Paul was at center stage in this controversy in Acts 15 that threatened to divide the church. This chapter became known as the Jerusalem Council. It is believed by most Christians today that this one chapter does away with the Law of Moses, some would include the Ten Commandments in this, especially the fourth commandment; "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy . . ." This presentation puts these ideas to rest, Tom demonstrates very clearly that the Jerusalem Council convened to set the record straight. Herein was the issue; was one saved by keeping the Law of Moses, which included circumcision and the appointed times in God's calendar, the Sabbath and the festivals, or by accepting the Sacrifice of the Son of God. I think when it is put like this we can all agree on how one is saved. Eph 2:8 "For it is by God's grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God's gift, so that no one can boast about it." The question is really, is the law done away with because of grace? Paul sets the record straight again. Rom 3:31 "Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law." Join Tom as he demonstrates that neither Jesus, Paul, or any of the other of the Apostles discarded the law and the prophets in Acts Chapter 15. All that was accomplished in the Jerusalem Council was to give a proper understanding of how one is saved, by the keeping of the law or by faith in the Sacrifice for sin in the Son of God.
