Coherence can bring us into a greater inner state of well-being and the experience of greater balance and harmony. He teaches a 5 Step Coherence Breathing Protocol . . . and offers us a glimpse of this Breathing Technique by sharing some real time data that demonstrates its positive effects in this podcast! Additionally, here is an outline of the Breathing Technique that Patrick shared in the podcast:

· Breathe from your belly (abdominal breathing). To check that, put a hand on your chest and one on your belly. The hand on your chest shouldn’t move much. Concentrate on your hand placed on your belly. If this is difficult for you at first, do it lying down. Once you get the hang of it, sit (or stand) up; it is more effective in the vertical position.

· Inhale though your nose and exhale through your mouth.

· Have the exhale be longer than your inhale. 4 sec inhale / 6 sec exhale is suggested but as long as your exhale is longer.

· On the inhale, press your tongue on the roof of your mouth, just behind your front teeth. This is the pressure point of a meridian that activates the parasympathetic nervous system.

· Focus on your chest; imagine you are breathing in and out through your chest. Imagine the air flowing in and flowing out.

Keep in mind, all these elements contribute to activating your parasympathetic nervous system but it’s ok if there is one you are not comfortable with. For example, people with dentures might not be able to apply pressure to the meridian behind the top front teeth. That is ok, the technique will still work.
