This was the theme song of the movie "Tokyo Rhapsody" released on December 1, 1936. The movie with the same title as the song title was produced because the song sung by Ichiro Fujiyama singing in June were hit. The protagonist of the movie was Ichiro Fujiyama.

He was a student at the Tokyo Music School from 1929 to 1933. His parents owed heavy debts in the 1929 World Depression. In 1931 he became a popular singer as a stage name "Ichiro Fujiyama" in order to repay a large debt. At the school, students were prohibited from acting as a popular singer. A famous song that he sang in his school days was "Sake is tears or sighs", "Beyond the hill". In 1932, the facts came to school, and he stopped singer activity. "Tokyo Rhapsody" was a great success as a singer after graduation. He was able to repay his parents' debt by singing income of this song. It was a famous piece representing Showa Modernism.
