Tools for measuring things must be calibrated against a known standard. When rocks from Mt. St. Helens were radio dated, the results where 350,000 to 2.8 million years for ten year old rocks. Rocks from the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii dated to be from 21 million to 43 million years old. It's obvious, radiometric dating cannot be calibrated and is not reliable.
