20201208 Illegal Intent - The Daily Summation

I'm not trying to say intent makes no difference when considering when a given law is broken. That said, it's often true that--intent aside--when you do something wrong, there will be some level of crime that can be charged as a result.

Think about someone who guns another down in cold blood, having planned to do so. That person is typically charged with first degree murder.

Someone who kills another, but for whom malice aforethought cannot be proven, is more likely to be prosecuted with manslaughter.

A person firing a gun in a place they shouldn't and killing somebody as a result, maybe not even knowing the person was there, might get unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Each demonstrates different levels of intent and responsiblity.

That's the sort of thing I talk about in this edition of The Daily Summation from Kurt's Religion and Politics.

When the companion post on the Kurt's Religion and Politics blog is completed, I'll post a link to it here.
