Evil season 1 review: delicious cake with a layer of woke icing

Evil is a show that lovingly explores the difference between believed demonic possession and mental illness. The writers have clearly studied church doctrine on demons, possession, worship and lovingly craft a story that makes one think about what is mental illness all the while taking the slow journey to possession with the cast. The show involves David Acosta (Michael Colter) a priest in training who love shrooms and an unbelieving psychologist, Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers). David brings her in to help him investigate possessions, miracles and prophecies for the Catholic Church. After taking the job her life and those of her family are upended by things that haunt their dreams.

The only downside to the show is it seems like they hired a woke write to appeal to "the kids" or something. The problem is these instances of racism make absolutely no sense. At one point David Acosta is in the hospital where his room mate tells him "be careful the white nurse with the squeaky shoes kills black people." Later we learn they're sacrificing black people at black masses. Why? Are black people are worth more as sacrifices? Is Satan racist? Then later they have a guy who can't get dates go on the internet to an incel support group where they say women have to give it up because America! Bruh...
