Today I’m going to review the Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller.

Conclusions
The Elite Series 2 controller is well-built and offers a lot of customization, but the price tag makes it an unrealistic purchase for most gamers.

Introduction

The Xbox Elite Series 2 controller for Xbox One / Xbox Series X/S is an officially licensed controller available now for $179.99. For reference, a standard controller is between $55-$65.

Initial Thoughts and Design
I’ve had the Elite Series 2 controller for a couple of months now and I can say it’s pretty awesome. You can tell it’s well built right off the bat. It’s heavier than other Xbox controllers I’ve owned and it comes with a built-in travel case, extra parts, and a charging stand.

The controller itself is built similar to a standard Xbox One controller with a few additions. For starters, the grips are textured for a better hold and feel. The D-pad is omnidirectional as opposed to the traditional cross shape. The triggers have built-in grip/texture as well as the ability to adjust the pressure required to fully depress them. I have found this last upgrade to be the most useful feature of the Elite Series 2. The controller also offers four additional buttons on the back (P1-P4) for custom use.

The travel case includes a number of spare parts; such as, additional thumb pads, a traditional cross D-pad, and a charging station. The case allows for a cable to pass through it in order to charge while storing your controller, which is a pretty neat feature. The charging stand is magnetic and removal if that’s your preference.

Opinion
The Elite Series 2 is a fantastic controller; however, the price is prohibitive for most consumers. As much as I like this controller, I can’t see the average gamer spending more than 3x as much on this controller versus a standard Xbox controller. That said, if the cost is not an issue this is the best controller I’ve used for Xbox.
