Of course, pull ups aren’t everything, but they’re a good indicator of upper body strength, muscle endurance, and keeping your body weight in check.

I spent 13 years as a Marine officer, and the Marine Corps has used pull ups as one of a few indicators of fitness level for many, many decades.
