On the 10th of June, 2010, Nadine and I took a ride on the B-17 "Aluminum Overcast" out of Centennial Airport near Denver, CO. This aircraft is a rehabilitated WWII Bomber owned by the EAA which took more than 10 years and thousands of hours by staff and volunteers at EAA Oshkosh, Wisconsin headquarters to complete. The Aluminum Overcast never saw combat, escaping the fate of many aircraft that were scrapped after WWII. It carries the colors of the 398th Bomb Group which flew hundreds of missions over Germany, and commemorates B-17G AAF Serial No. 42-102516 which was shot down over France in 1944. This ride and experience brought a lot more respect for the crews who flew them! (George & Nadine Smith)
