Why Black Lives Matter is Controversial

A video essay that covers why black lives matter is controversial. Specifically, black lives matter is semantic overload – people use the same phrase to both represent an idea and the BLM organization. We have many assumptions about racism against the black community here in the US, but we agree on a lot, and just have different ideas of why things are the way they are. Because we all have different ideas about racism, is it a surprise that we ask why don’t people agree that black lives matter? The organization Black Lives Matter is controversial, and there are many people who agree with the statement that black lives matter, but understandably don’t want to be associated with or confused for the BLM’s actions. So can we all please stop pretending like there is a significant portion of the population that thinks that black lives don’t matter, or that there is a large group of people who think there was nothing wrong with what happened to George Floyd? If we can, I believe we will truly be working towards a brighter future.
