I said that if neither Biden or Trump gets 270 electoral votes in the electoral college, then it’s up to the U.S. Senate to decide who will be the next President.
That was a mistake, and I have explained it correctly a couple of times before on this channel.
It actually goes to the U.S. House of Representatives to decide. Now normally, you would immediately think – Oh, advantage Democrats. But it’s not true because for this special vote, the House members do not vote individually. If that was the case, then Biden would probably win because the Democrats – even under the next Congress – would hold about a 10 vote advantage.
No, in this very special case, A case that has never happened before in American history, each state delegation only gets one vote. So, since there are 50 states, there are 50 votes, and the Republicans have majorities in 26 states , and the Democrats hold majorities in only 21 states , with three states having an equal number of Republicans and Democrats in the house from their state.
Even if those three delegations voted with the Democrats The Democrats would still lose on a 24 to 26 vote, and trump would win reelection.
even if somehow The Democrats were able to tie The Republicans in the house, in other words a 25 to 25 vote , guess who the tiebreaker is? Vice president Mike Pence.
So this is actually a much better situation for the Republicans then even if it were thrown into the Senate. If it were thrown into the Senate then that would give tremendous power to some of the never trumper senators, like mittens Romney.
So this outcome — having the House of Representatives decide the election in this special case — is the most advantageous for Trump.
