Patmos is a small island that is a cliff with steep walls on the Katun river, Chemalsky district, Altai Republic. Located on the outskirts of the village of Chemal. Not far from the island is the confluence of the Katun and Chemal rivers. The only way to the island is via a suspension bridge.
The island owes its name to the small Greek island of Patmos. The island was consecrated in 1855, and later a Church was built on it. The island was visited by Metropolitan Macarius. In the 1920s, the Church was destroyed, and in 2000 it was rebuilt as the Church of the Apostle John the theologian. In 2001, it was transferred to the Barnaul Znamensky convent. Currently, services are held there, and anyone can visit the island.
