Big Nose Kate, Off Grid Camping, and a Blue McDonalds arch.

This feels like a story that should begin "One time at band camp..." But it's far from that. We had a weekend to explore between Prescott and Flagstaff, AZ. We found places to disburse camp (free camping if you're unsure what that means) and discovered a few things along the way.

Ever heard about Doc Holliday Wyatt Earp's best friend and excellent marksman? Well his girlfriend Big Nose Kate is buried in Prescott! As well, we visited the graves of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots that perished in a fire a couple years ago while working to put it out. Read more about it here. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona-wildfires/2018/06/24/granite-mountain-hotshots-only-brave-memorial-site/674512002/

Likewise, we also visited Watson lake, a beautiful city lake and park in Prescott with huge boulder outcrops surrounding the lake. After which we took off towards Sedona and kept right on going straight down AZ89A highway through what we believe is the most beautiful scenery in Arizona (if you don't want to look at cactus)

Up just past Oak Creek Canyon at around 8000' is plenty of disbursed camping areas. We were a short distance south of Kachina Village on AZ 89A still off on some fire service road for the forestry service. Cool breezes and tall pine trees led to one beautiful night in the forest. At this point, we had returned back to Coconino NF.

We woke up Sunday Morning to bugling elk and 43 degrees to which we opted to drive back to Sedona and have a hot breakfast. Afterwards we went for a short drive and hike to devils bridge and other points around Sedona before heading back home. We look forward to returning there soon to do more exploring.
