Mount Lemmon, Up One side and down the other pt1

To get a reprieve from the heat, Crystal and I moseyed on down to Tucson area and drove up the Mt. Lemmon Scenic Byway to camp for a night. The following morning we were to come back down the mountain on the control road going on the east side of Mt. Lemmon.

What a gorgeous trip it was! Tucson was bathed in greenery if you can imagine that in the desert. Mesquite trees and Palo Verde trees were everywhere shining their green glow across the landscape. We stopped a couple times to snap a couple pictures then it was up the mountain.

As we ascended the mountain, it was almost whimsical to watch the temperature gauge start dropping as we gained altitude. Starting off near 100 degrees in Tucson, we dropped about 30 degrees to the point we stopped for the night.

The evening held a wonderful sunset we peered at through the trees of our magnificent campsite for the evening. We were nestled in among the long needle pines surrounded by chunks of beautiful granite protruding from just below the surface of ground. Of course this made driving stakes in almost impossible.

We climbed into our roof top tent after sharing a back packer meal and settled in for the night with a calming breeze rushing through the trees that lulled us to sleep like a sweet lullaby. THe morning came in a hurry for us and we started our day with Sausage Grits and scrambled eggs then made our way to our next journey.

Stay tuned for next week when we continue the saga of Mt. Lemmon, Up One Side and Down The Other.
