The video is meant to be an artistic piece intended for reflection on a specific point in time in our country's history and how it may apply to the present day.
Transcript:
Snyder: "The Charles Manson interview will probably provoke dismay, possibly fear, even some anger. I hope it provoke some thought. It begins right after this."
Snyder: "Where you happy when you found out you weren't gonna go to the gas chamber Charles?"
Manson: "I knew I wasn't gonna go to the gas chamber cause I hadn't done anything wrong."
Snyder: "You scared to die?"
Manson: "Sometimes I feel I'm scared to live. Living is what scares me. Dying is easy."
Manson: "...all my life I was raised up in here, so I understand jail, so I understand myself and I can deal with that. I sit in my cell and I do my number, like a convict does his number."
Manson: "...but there's different colors on different people's backs doing different things. It's a different world. I love the world I live in too, just like Reagan loves the world he lives in."
Snyder: "You love the world you live in?"
Manson: "Well most assuredly, it's me."
Snyder: "You love all the pain that you've caused people? All the anguish--"
Manson: "Oh! I don't know pain! I don't know pain! I have no depth of pain! I have no depth of suffering. I don't know ridicule. I don't know all the bad things. I haven't been punished by you all my life since I was 10 years old... I've been in every reform school you got across the country, and used to have to lay down and get my ass whipped til I couldn't walk. Tell me about some pain."
Snyder: "And that's our fault? That's all these people watching--"
Manson: "No. No one fault. Make strong. Good pain. Understand pain. Not bad. Pain's not bad, it's good. It teaches you things. It teaches you things."
Snyder: "You use the word 'maniacs' on the outside, how are you different from the 'maniacs' on the outside? And why do you call them 'maniacs'? Because you know something, they think you're one.
Manson: "Yeah, it would reflect. If you hold a negative up to the light, you don't see the light, you just see the negative. So I'm a reflection of your negative. There's no doubt of about that and I can handle that also."
Manson: "...You're so white and pure?"
Snyder: "Judge didn't say you were innocent."
Manson: "Are you innocent?"
Snyder: "Innocent of what?"
Manson: "Well that's what I'm saying."
Snyder: "None of us are innocent."
Manson: "Yeah, just because you're convicted in a courtroom doesn't mean you're guilty of something.
Snyder: "What does mean you're guilty?"
Manson: "When you know you're guilty.
