AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, herself is a Democrat NY Representative is considering NOT running again if the Democrats doesn’t show her more support. Last Nov. 8th, AOC spoke with New York Times, saying “I genuinely don’t know. I don’t even know if I want to be in politics,” she told the paper. “You know, for real, in the first six months of my term, I didn’t even know if I was going to run for re-election this year.” Why? It’s because she felt there was not enough internal support. “Externally, there’s been a ton of support, but internally, it’s been extremely hostile to anything that even smells progressive,” complained AOC. During the last weekend, some Democrats raised concerns that the socialist messaging and prospoals cost Democrats elections. For example, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who told CBS News on Sunday: “We’re not for the New Green Deal, we’re not for the things [President Donald Trump] has talked about, Medicare for All. We can’t even pay for Medicare for some.”
Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.) won reelection but she admits she almost lost her seat because of people’s perception of socialism among Democrats. Spanberger was adamant about socialism, according to the audio obtained by the Post, saying it was a reason some House Democrats lost their races. She was quoted as saying, “We want to talk about funding social services, and ensuring good engagement in community policing, let's talk about what we are for. And we need to not ever use the words 'socialist' or 'socialism' ever again. Because while people think it doesn't matter, it does matter. And we lost good members because of it.” Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., also said, “I think that the Democratic party needs to clearly push that we are not supportive of ideas like socialism or defunding the police or anti-Semitism,” Just last Nov. 5th, they had a phone in meeting with fellow Democrats to discuss election results. Washington Post reports, ““An angry dispute erupted among House Democrats on Thursday, with centrist members blasting their liberal colleagues during a private conference call for pushing far-left views that cost the party seats in Tuesday’s election that they had worked hard to win two years ago,””
Several Democrats said the “socialist” label harmed candidates who lost seats in Florida with its vast Cuban and Venezuelan communities who largely reject socialist ideologies.
