Muskrat Rescue

Pest control is my main profession. A pest is by definition anything that is bothering/causing a problem for someone. As such, nothing is inherently a pest, it's all circumstantial. Muskrats definitely demonstrate that with the numerous beneficial things they do in the environment, absent chance situations like this one.

Pest control is also not exclusively "extermination," but sometimes just the alteration of a situation in which one thing is being a pest to another. We pest control professionals don't always kill, sometimes we just lend a helping hand...

This was one of those situations. This muskrat tumbled down a deep concrete basement window well belonging to a client of mine, so I climbed in there with a shovel and helped the little critter get out.

It seemed to be in rough shape; from what my client told me it may have been trapped down there for two days. I'm not sure if it's going to make it, but at least it has a chance now.
