SEEK - AND LISTEN - TO HIS WORD

Isaiah 55-56

ISAIAH prophesied 40 some years in the later part of the 8th century in and around Jerusalem. He did so during the reign of four kings of Judah (i.e. Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah).

Religious and political turmoil. The socio affairs of the city were growing wicked by the minute. Foreign barbaric Pagan nations surrounding the Hebrews were ever-pressing. And God’s people had begun to practice the heathen’s polytheistic worldview (i.e. idolatry, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, and so on). They had since welcomed the enemy within their fold. As far as the economy, it was well and growing. But the moral fabric of this society was no longer found in the hearts of Israel and in public life. The poor were neglected. The widows rejected. Trust in God had been wilfully removed in order to trust in men.

This was an offense to God and judgment would come. Yet hope in His grace was presented. And the formula for a healing Nation would return if adherence to the Scripture would be administered.
