False Security - Utah Attorney General Child Identity Theft Protection Program
First, I strongly encourage parents to enroll their children in the program (see: https://cip.utah.gov/). Just please be aware that this will absolutely not protect you child from identity theft - it will only protect their credit which is just one part of a person's identity. Just as destructive, if not more, is employment-related and medical identity theft (illegal immigrants, fugitives, deadbeat moms/dads, addicts).
A great illustration is actually found in this video itself. The theft of the child's identity and subsequent corruption of earnings, social security, and, potentially, medical records may have already occurred and would not have been prevented by enrollment in the program. His mom still has a lot of work cut out for her to verify and/or clean up the aforementioned records.
For details on why this program can lead people to a false sense of security, please see this post on the matter: http://utahrattler.wordpress.com/2012/02/08/primrose-path-ag-shurtleffs-child-id-theft-measure/
