Child Identity Theft - Utah Legislation

Children's identities are some of the most sought after by illegal immigrants, fugitives, deadbeats, and other illegal workers. They need the identity in order to work, but in so doing they corrupt the child's identity and, frequently, destroy their credit, resulting in long-term consequences to the victim.

This legislation will help and, if passed this year, legislation requiring employers to use E-Verify (a free, ICE-provided identity verification system) could virtually end child identity theft. The question remains if employers of illegal labor will be able to convince the legislature to kill the legislation.
