Quebec stabbing attack leaves 2 dead, 5 hurt; suspect in 'medieval clothes' arrested

Two people were killed and five others injured after a man went on a stabbing rampage in Quebec City, authorities said.

Officers arrested a man in his mid-20s in connection with the Halloween night attacks in the historic district, the Quebec City Police Service said early Sunday.

The incident unfolded near the National Assembly around 10:30 p.m., when police were notified about a man armed with a bladed weapon who had left “multiple victims.”

The five injured victims were transported to local hospitals with different levels of injury and the suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation, police spokesperson Étienne Doyon said, according to CBC News.

Doyon would not say whether the attacks were random and did not identify the victims out of respect for the families, CBC News reported.

At a news conference on Sunday, Quebec City Police Chief Robert Pigeon said the suspect, from the Montreal suburbs, came to Quebec City with "the intention of doing the most damage possible".

The police chief said it is believed his victims were chosen at random and his attack was premeditated.
