South Africa - Cape Town - 19 February 2020 - The sheriff of the court addressed refugees living in and around the Central Methodist Mission Church in the Cape Town CBD. Afterwards, a number of refugees were transported to a temporary Home Affairs Department verification venue set up in the Salt River Civic Centre. As part of the ongoing court case between the City of Cape Town and the refugees, Judge Daniel Thulare instructed the City to provide a venue where the Department of Home Affairs can conduct a verification exercise of all the individuals who have been living in the church and the surrounding public areas for the past few months.
