Six weeks after Hurricane Laura blasted throughout southwest Louisiana, residents are spending the weekend cleaning up new damage after Hurricane Delta roared into the storm-battered region.

Hurricane Delta, now a tropical depression, made landfall near Creole, Louisiana, on Friday evening, with nearly 11 million people in the storm’s path.

More than 600,000 power outages were reported across Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi early Saturday afternoon as the storm’s remnants moved further inland.

While no deaths have been reported, he said, the storm’s wake can be treacherous.

Most of the 32 deaths in Louisiana and Texas attributed to Laura came in the days after the hurricane struck.

At a news conference on Saturday, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said the storm dumped more than 15 inches of rain on Lake Charles over two days and more than 10 inches in Baton Rouge, with flooding being the biggest impact from this latest storm.

Delta is now expected to move across western and northern Mississippi before heading into the Tennessee Valley tonight and Sunday.
