Abandoned Mental Hospital

This is only a fraction of the collection of photos/videos I've taken of Fairfield Hills; it's one of my favorite places to explore in New England. Spooky, sad, but beautiful.

Fairfield Hills is an abandoned psychiatric hospital that was established 1931 within the small town of Newtown, Connecticut. The hospital was massive, comprised ultimately of 20+ buildings. It closed down in 1995, but has been turned into a public park and is used by the fire department, as well as a myriad of other town buildings.

There are contradictions of how patients were treated, though the general theory is that it followed the same cruel process of most asylums during that era.

Fun facts: My great-grandmother is rumored to have stayed in Fairfield Hills. My aunt was there during the 70's, and she said it was horrible.
