elephant ear is a succulent plant, which stands out for the shape, texture and exuberant color of its leaves. It originates in South Africa and forms dense basal rosettes with its broad, rounded, glabrous and succulent leaves, covered with a tenuous white powdery waxy layer, which is concentrated in greater quantity near the stem and inflorescences. This layer gives the plant a matte appearance, very interesting. Depending on the variety, the ambient temperature and the level of insolation, the leaves may appear light green, bluish or cream yellow with more or less red margins, in a delicate gradient. There are also variegated cream plants. After planting, the plants reach maturity in three to four years, but they can bloom as early as two years, with long and erect terminal inflorescences emerging in autumn, which can reach more than one meter in height. The elephant ear inflorescence is of the panicle type, with small yellow and very fragrant flowers. After flowering, which can last up to a year, the plant dies, not without leaving many small seedlings that emerge from its base.
