New Jersey schools will stay closed for the remainder of the academic year
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said at a news briefing Monday that state’s schools will stay closed for the remainder of the academic year to continue to curb further spread of the coronavirus.
"Guided by safety and science, this is the best course of action," Murphy said. "The reality is we cannot safely reopen schools to provide students, families, faculty, staff the confidence needed to allow a return to in-person instruction."
While New Jersey sees key signs of progress in its war against COVID-19, he cited concerns for adhering to safety measures that may be difficult to implement in classroom settings, particularly those with young children.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that schools and colleges in New York will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year. Cuomo said there’s not enough time to come up with a reopening plan that would keep students and educators safe for schools to reopen this academic year.
