Gov. Phil Murphy has said he's about to unveil a plan to reopening the state after it has been pummeled by the coronavirus pandemic, but says schools aren't on the list, at least for now.
Murphy said Tuesday he understands the strain his decision to close New Jersey schools but says they won’t reopen until it’s safe.
“We cannot rush to reopen anything and risk undoing all the extraordinary work that you have done so far,” Murphy said.
The governor has said reopening society will include key benchmarks that must be met, including the availability of broader testing.
Murphy said at least 15,000 to 20,000 tests must be administered a day with results available within 24 hours.
"That’s a bare minimum,” he said.
