They have been serving up buckwheat pancakes that you can smother in freshly made maple syrup at Cartwright's Maple Tree Inn in Angelica since 1963. Lavergne Cartwright says his parents opened the place because "they had the idea of a spatula and the jug of maple syrup and this is what it turned into." The restaurant is only open nine weeks of the year. While there are a number of items on the menu, it seems most folks come here for the pancakes and syrup. Jim Shoemaker of Rochester says he tries to get here every year, adding "we would come here everyday if we could." There's a gift shop with lots of Cartwright's merchandise and maple syrup available in a variety of convenient sizes. Downstairs there is a little museum and a giant evaporator that transforms sap into golden, delicious maple syrup. Open everyday but Mondays, you can get a complete list of hours and directions at their website.
