Albright-Knox Art Gallery is making it's mark on Buffalo's East Side
There is a new neighbor on the East Side's Northland Avenue. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery Elmwood Campus may be closed for renovations, but the work of the museum continues. They just opened Albright-Knox Northland. The former industrial site has been transformed into a multi use space that will showcase artwork, offer a wide variety of events and classes and continue to reach out and incorporate the community. Curator of Public Art for the museum, Aaron Ott says "it's very different than anything at the museum." The first exhibit is 'Open House: Domestic Thresholds' and it features the work of three artists including the late Rodney Taylor, Edra Soto and Heather Hart. Hart's piece is a life-sized replica of a rooftop that visitors are encouraged to climb on and go inside to explore. Aaron says "we really hope this space will encourage people to re-calibrate not only their understanding of contemporary art, but hopefully their relationship with the Albright." Albright Northland is at 612 Northland Avenue, Buffalo, NY. Opened Friday through Sunday. Admission is pay what you wish. For a listing of activities and events at the Northland you can check the Albright-Knox Art Gallery website.
