Rare drone footage of the oldest submerged city in the World

Next to Punta Lakonia is Pavlopetri, which is a small island opposite Elafonissos.
In the wider area there are archaeological finds that testify to the habitation of the area since ancient times. Between the islet and the shore lies an ancient city, submerged a few meters below the surface, about 5 millennia old. It is unique in its kind as it has a concrete design with streets, buildings and a cemetery. Discovered in 1967 by Nicholas Flemming and mapped in 1968 by a team from the University of Cambridge. There are at least 15 buildings at a depth of 3 to 4 meters and recent surveys of 2009 have revealed that it extends to 9 acres. Initially it was estimated that the city was built around 1600-1100 BC. but later investigations revealed through findings that the city was inhabited before 2800 BC, at the beginning of the Bronze Age. It is believed that the city sank in 1000 BC.
