It's that spooky time of year, where more and more people are looking for a good fright! If you're on the search for some scary reads - for all ages - our book guru has you covered! Carole Barrowman is back to share some favorites for ghouls and boys of all ages! For more information on Carole and her own books, visit BarrowmanBooks.com. And see below for her Halloween picks: 1. "Creepy Carrots" by Aaron Reynolds & Peter Brown (any age) - What? Your kids haven’t met Jasper the Rabbit. He has a passion for crisp carrots and eats them all the time. Until one day, the carrots don’t want to be eaten any more… 2. "Ice Cream Every Time I See A Ghost" by Luna James (3+) - This is a spooktacular collection of Halloween jokes. Perfect for the youngster who doesn’t like scary. How do you spot a modern spider? He has a website. 3. "Roald Dahl’s Book of Ghost Stories" (10+) - Before his death, the author, Roald Dahl put together this anthology of what he thought were classic ghost stories. He had good taste. Dahl picked stories based on their “spookiness” which he thought was the key element in a good ghost story. This is a perfect collection for young readers who are into creepy suspense but not into horror. 4. "The Family Plot" by Cherie Priest - I can’t resist a haunted house novel, especially one as shiveringly suspenseful as this one. There are no Withrows left to inherit the Withrow family mansion in Tennessee, but that doesn’t mean the house is empty. There’s a graveyard on the estate and an wrathful presence in the house. 5. "Growing Things" by Paul Tremblay - This is a collection of weird, strange, supernatural, and darkly chilling short stories. Some are tales of horror, a couple are ghost stories, and they are all pretty twisted. Tremblay’s stories give Stephen King the creeps. Just ask him.
