Vacationing to tropical locations like Puerto Vallarta can be a lot of fun. Relaxing on the beach with your toes in the sand. Swimming in the warm waters. Even taking excursions to the jungle and mountains is very exciting. For those that live in these areas and have grown up there, these excursions can be an every day occurrence for fun and excitement. Many times when on vacation, we forget about being safe. It is a mindset that leads us to believe, “i’m on vacation, nothing will happen to me”. Vogart is a young man who lives in Puerto Vallarta and lives a very active life. Riding motorcycles and many other out door activities, he lives a life of freedom. The day this video was recorded was a day of change. Puerto Vallarta is in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Vogart and his friends decided to make a day trip out to a location known as Palo Maria, roughly a half hour hike in from it’s nearest road. There are seven waterfalls in total in this area, but they are very challenging to reach. The hiking paths and rock walls into these falls are very slippery so it is best to wear good shoes if taking on this feat. After some time swimming and jumping from low level ledges at the Palo Maria falls, Vogart decided he wanted to go higher. Edging his way ever so carefully along the slippery rock wall with loose dirt and rocks, he reached his jumping point. Trying to move closer to the edge, he starts to slip and prematurely starts his jump. Without a solid footing he is unable to jump clear of the cliff and starts to bounce down the rock wall unintentionally. Bouncing off one part of the wall he cartwheels towards the water, strikes hanging cables before plunging head first into the water. Not knowing how badly he is injured his friends immediately jump in the water to rescue him. The video comes to an abrupt end as it was his girlfriend recording his jump, and she immediately shut her phone off when he was injured. Once taken out of the water by friends, he rested and was checked by friends to make sure he was ok, for the most part. Suffering a split lip, an injured arm and a very sore nose appeared to be the worst of Vogarts injuries. Hiking out was the only option. In pain, and nearly passing out twice, he and his friends made their way out then proceeded straight to the hospital. Vogart spent a week recovering at home and realizing he needs to slow down on the daredevil activities. Thankfully he was not injured worse as there is no search and rescue available here, nor helicopter rescue if that was needed. Always plan ahead and think of the worst scenario in order to get home safe.
